The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on 3 November 2016, Trainer P P Kruyer was charged with a contravention of Rule 10.5.16.5.

This arose after certain used needles and syringes seized by Officials of The National Horseracing Authority at Mr Kruyer’s Racing Stables in Milnerton, on 25 May 2016, were found, upon analysis, to contain, inter alia, Testosterone Cypionate, a forbidden substance in terms of Rule 74.2.

Mr Kruyer pleaded not guilty to the charge but was found guilty of the charge.

In consideration of a penalty, the Inquiry Board took into account the mitigating circumstances put forward by Mr Kruyer’s legal representative and imposed a R50,000.00 fine, of which R25,000.00 is suspended for a period of 3 years, provided that Mr Kruyer is not charged with and found guilty of a similar charge during that period.
