Has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at the Vaal Racecourse on Tuesday, 2 July 2019, Jockey Keanen Steyn was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read in conjunction with Guideline M on the use of the crop).

This arose in that he struck the horse MERENGUE more than twelve times in the entire race in Race 3 at Turffontein Racecourse on 23 June 2019.

Mr Steyn pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board found Mr Steyn guilty and after considering Mr Steyn’s history of contravening this Rule and Guideline,imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of 7 days.

Jockey Steyn has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
