The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Inquiry was held in Port Elizabeth on 11 March 2016 into Jockey Karl Zechner’s behaviour in the weighing room after the running of Race 3 at Fairview Racecourse on 26 February 2016.
Jockey Zechner was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.18 in that he abused and swore at a licensed official.
Jockey Zechner pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Inquiry Board found Jockey Zechner guilty and imposed a penalty of a fine of R12 000 of which R6 000 is wholly suspended for a period of 12 months, on condition that he is not found guilty of an offence in terms of Rule 72.1.18 over the said period.
Jockey Zechner has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.
