At an Inquiry finalised in Durban on 13 November 2015, Trainer James Goodman was found guilty of a contravention of Rule 73.2.4 in that he was the Trainer of the horse ALDRIC from which a urine specimen was taken after it had participated in the 2nd race at Greyville Racecourse Scottsville on 10 October 2014.
The specimen disclosed upon analysis, the presence of Caffeine, a prohibited substance in terms of the NHA rules.
The Board indicated to Mr Goodman at that time that detailed and full reasons for this finding would be furnished as well as its decision in regard to the penalty to be imposed.
A lengthy judgment has been prepared by the Board and delivered to the NHA and to Mr Goodman on 12 January 2016.
As appears from the judgment, the Board imposed a fine of R80 000 and in addition, acting in terms of Rules 84.6 and 75.12, ordered Mr Goodman to pay costs incurred by the NHA in an amount of R45 500. Furthermore, in terms of Rule 72.3.2 ALDRIC is disqualified from the race and the provisions of Rule 67.7.8 shall have application.
The reasons for the finding and for the penalty and costs imposed are set out in detail in the judgment referred to above.
The judgment also sets out the reasons why it took so long for the inquiry proceedings to reach their conclusion.
