The Chief Executive Officer of the National Horseracing Authority of South Africa has informed the Sporting Post that a ‘thorough investigation’ has been launched into concerns of misappropriation of trainers and riders’ benevolent funds, as raised by a member at the NHA AGM held on January.

The contents of the letter are quoted below:

‘I refer to the article in your publication – “The Meaning of the AGM” on 13 January 2015.

At the Annual General Meeting of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa, held earlier this month, a concern was raised by Mr Brett Maselle in terms of which he suggested, inter alia, that funds properly belonging to the trainers’ and riders’ benevolent fund, may have been misappropriated.

The allegations and concerns raised by Mr Maselle are the subject of a thorough investigation. The facts uncovered to date indicate that there has not been any misappropriation of funds, in any form.  Nonetheless, the investigation continues and a more detailed report will be made available once the investigation has been finalised.
