Following the latest guidelines for animal movements issued by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD), (formerly known as Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF)), previous restrictions on the movement of animals based on Covid-19 regulations have been lifted.
It is further understood that the Directors of the Provincial Veterinary Services have delegated authority to decide which regulatory services they can provide in line with the Covid-19 regulations that apply in their respective province.
The NHA advises that for the month of June, and as previously communicated, horses will be limited to run in their racing districts unless they are making one permanent move.
Kindly note that standard African Horse Sickness movement regulations apply to the movement of horses. Please be reminded the exercise, movement and transport of animals is permitted as long as the exercise, movement and transport of people for the particular activity or purpose is permitted under the relevant Alert Level that is in place for the area under the Regulations of Act 57 of 2002.
