In a press release issued on Saturday, 29 November 2014, the NHA have announced the appointment of two new National Board Directors.
In terms of the Constitution of The National Horseracing Authority, the two National Board Directors who were longest in office were required to retire at the close of the 2015 Annual General Meeting. The two Directors who were required to retire were Adv Altus Joubert from the Central Provinces (current Chairman of the Board), who made himself available for re-election and Mr Etienne Braun from the Western Cape, who did not make himself available for re-election.
There was only one nomination for the vacancy created by the retirement of Mr Etienne Braun, namely Mr J N S du Plessis. Johann du Plessis, a member of the Steinhoff board of directors who has also recently been appointed to the Chair of the Racing Trust, is consequently elected as a Director on the National Board.
In the Central Provinces, Mr A O’Connor was nominated for the vacancy created by the retirement of Adv Joubert. Elections were conducted in terms of the Constitution. The outcome of the election is that Andy O’Connor is elected as a Director on the National Board.
Messrs du Plessis and O’Connor will assume office at the close of the Annual General Meeting scheduled for Monday, 12 January 2015. With the loss of Chairman Adv Altus Joubert, a new Chair will be appointed at a meeting of the board, to be held directly after the AGM.
