The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an inquiry was held at its offices on Wednesday, 3 February 2016 into the riding of MAGNUM OPUS by Jockey A Aucharuz in the concluding stages of Race 9 run at the Turffontein Racecourse on 24 January 2015.

Jockey Aucharuz has been unable to successfully acquire a visa to race in South Africa for a period of over a year and accordingly after consultation with Mr Aucharuz, the decision was taken to conduct this inquiry in his absence.

Jockey Aucharuz was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3, in that he failed to ride MAGNUM OPUS out to the end of the race thereby prejudicing his chances of obtaining fourth position.

The Inquiry Board entered a plea of not guilty of behalf of Mr Aucharuz, however after considering the evidence presented to the board and reviewing the patrol films of the race, found Mr Aucharuz guilty of the charge and ruled that the appropriate penalty be that he be suspended from riding in races for a period of ten 10 days.

Jockey Aucharuz has the right of appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
