Andrew O'Connor gets special thanks

The 136th Annual General Meeting of Members was held at the offices of The National Horseracing Authority, Turf Club Street, Turffontein, on Wednesday, 17 January 2017 at 14h00.

In a press released dated 18 January 2018, NHA CEO Lyndon Barends reports that the Chairman, Mr Ken Truter, announced the following achievements and milestones during the last financial year (1 August 2016 to 31 July 2017):

A total of 4 003 (4 027 in 2016) races were run by 43 708 (44 188 in 2016) runners on the eight racecourses in South Africa and one in Zimbabwe.

262 (253 in 2016) Trainers & Assistant Trainers were active and registered with the NHA.

142 (148 in 2016) Jockeys and Apprentice Jockeys were active and registered with the NHA.

The Laboratory analysed 6 137 (6 073 in 2017) specimens.

The NHA Laboratory was re-accredited by SANAS (South African National Accreditation System).

The Laboratory is a signatory member of international and Asian screening limits and internationally prohibited substance thresholds.

The Audited Financial Statements were approved.

The NHA reported a surplus of R2 622 977 for the year under review.

The Chairman recorded a special thanks to the two outgoing Board Directors, Mr Cecil Beyleveld who served since 2001 and Mr Andrew O’Connor.

A special thanks to Mr Andrew O’Connor who was Chairman for the first six months of the period under review and who guided the ship with much dedication and success through a difficult time of change and consolidation.
