Newsflash: Four Vaal Jockeys Abandon Ship

Track remains an issue as four jockeys choose not to ride further

2008 Emerald Cup - AlimonyRacing at the Vaal was interrupted after the running of the fifth race today following a track inspection.

Three horses were galloped this morning in front of an observer group that included NHA officials, representatives of Phumelela and trainers and jockeys.

This inspection arrangement followed official inquiries held by the NHA and Phumelela on Friday following the abandonment of last Thursday’s meeting.

Jockeys Piere Strydom,Gavin Lerena, Ian Sturgeon and Karl Zechner exercised their right to be stood down in the light of personal safety concerns.
