Drakenstein Stud’s exciting resident stallion Duke Of Marmalade built further on his outstanding international stakes form when Nutan gave trainer Peter Schiergen his fifth victory in the Gr1 IDEE 146th Deutsches Derby with an emphatic showing at Hamburg racecourse.
Jockey Andreas Starke kept the 9/2 shot to the far side while several of his rivals took the last turn very wide, losing many lengths.
Keeping a straight line, Nutan quickly set up a clear advantage and won unchallenged. Palace Prince was second with Fair Mountain third.
The favourite Shimrano – who had Nutan back in third when winning at Cologne last month – was one of those that went wide and could never get into contention from that point.
The race, rated as the German equivalent of the Epsom Derby, is run over 2400m.
Duke Of Marmalade, a son of Danehill, is behind only Cape Cross, Dubawi and Galileo on the European Sires List, and is also fourth Leading Sire of 3YOS (by stakes) in Europe this season thus far
