An outbreak of African Horse Sickness in the Paarl area has led to a rescheduling of Saturday’s 16 April Durbanville racemeeting to Kenilworth. The country course falls within the AHS containment zone.
Trainer Glen Kotzen, who is based on the private Woodhill Estate, was forced to scratch all of his Kenilworth runners this past Saturday and seems the yard worse affected.
He will have to apply for a special dispensation to race or possibly face 40 race-free days of his horses idling in their boxes.
The situation is not entirely gloomy as the Milnerton training centre falls within the AHS free zone and the Philippi yards, although falling within the surveillance zone, will also be able to race.
