The 2010 Vodacom Durban July winner Bold Silvano was the first son of champion sire Silvano to go to stud in South Africa and opened the batting for this term’s first crop sires when his first ever runner stormed home to win the opening event at Fairview on Monday.

A top-class winner of 7 races from 1100m to 2200m, Bold Silvano stands in the Eastern Cape at the place of his birth – Ascot Stud. He is out of the four-time winning Al Mufti mare, Bold Saffron.
His first winner will be a major shout of confidence for his three yearlings who come up for sale over the next few weeks.
The beautifully bred sire has a single lot (# 143) on offer at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale and also has two lots (#111/#113) on offer at the Val De Vie Yearling Sale in February.
His winning daughter Besotted, trained by Gavin Smith, beat five opponents to win the 800m Maiden Juvenile Plate under Warren Kennedy on Monday.
The Riyo Stud bred filly, a 2015 National 2yo Sale graduate, produced a quick return on her R50 000 purchase price when she beat O Tamara by 0,25 lengths in a time of 45,72 secs. She was fancied and went off second favourite at 22-10.
Besotted is out of the Point Given mare Right Call – whose relatives include Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Aptitude and his very close relative, US Champion Slew O’Gold, as well as Gr1 Belmont Stakes winner and former local sire Coastal.

Bold Silvano was a top class two-year-old, who won two of his four outings as a juvenile, including the G3 Champion Juvenile Cup.
South Africa’s Equus Champion Middle Distance Horse campaigned in Dubai for Mike de Kock and won the Gr3 Al Maktoum Challenge, where he accounted for the outstanding international performers Interaction, Gr1 Dubai Duty Free hero Al Shemali, $2 000 000 earner Gitano Hernando, and Gr1 Racing Post Trophy winner Crowded House.
He stands at Ascot Stud for a fee of ZAR15 000.
