Hoedspruit Is Flying

Facile victory for Legislate gelding

SA Champion trainer Justin Snaith saddled his second Listed Algoa Cup winner in four renewals of the Eastern Cape’s premier race when SA champion owner Suzette Viljoen’s Legislate gelding Hoedspruit justified some inspired betting support to win his second race from two starts as a 4yo.

A second winner on the long weekend Friday afternoon for the Snaith-Fourie combination, Hoedspruit was saddled in the absence of the Cape trainer by Zolani ‘Patrick’ Xamle, who also banked the fourth cheque with the lesser fancied stablemate, Bayberry.

In a fifteen strong field that included six visitors, the Algoa Cup victory run of the raiders dating back to 2010 continued unabated as Legislate (17-10) was unleashed in grand style by Richard Fourie to win in the manner of a horse who could make his presence felt this term.

The impressive athlete had 2,50 lengths to spare over the consistent Find Me Unafraid (8-1) and clocked an unpressured 124,56 secs for the 2000m.

Fourie said that his mount was cantering coming into the straight.

“I was watching our arch-rival Cat Daddy but had him stone cold at the 250m. It was easy in the end,” he said.

Registering his second stakes success after the Gr3 World Sports Betting Legal Eagle Stakes last term, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein-bred Hoedspruit now boasts 5 wins with 5 places from 13 starts for stakes of R393 975.

The winner is out of the Trippi mare Londalozi, a full-sister to Gr2 Betting World Oaks third Shingwedzi and a three-parts sister to Perfect Promise Sprint winner Lesedi La Rona, who was acquired by Wilgerbosdrift at the 2017 Cape Mare Sale while carrying Hoedspruit!

Hoedspruit was a R280 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Yearling Sale.

His four time Gr1 winning sire Legislate (Dynasty), South Africa’s 2013/14 Horse Of The Year has a single lot at Sunday’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.

Lot 38 is a half-brother to six winners and is out of a stakes placed half-sister to Gr1 Summer Cup winner Flirtation.
