Leading US sire Stormy Atlantic was in the news this weekend. His son, Gr1 winning classic star, Up With The Birds, was named Canada’s Horse Of The Year for 2013, while a daughter of Stormy Atlantic, Stormy Lucy made it back to back scores in graded races when she landed the Gr3 Santa Barbara Handicap.
Up With The Birds, who was also named Canada’s Champion 3YO Male for 2013, had a tremendous year in 2013. The colt won four of six outings last year and nearly $1 000 000 in prize money. Up With The Birds’ principal triumphs last year included the Gr1 Jamaica Handicap and the Breeders Stakes (the final leg of Canada’s Triple Crown).
Now a dual graded stakes winner, Stormy Lucy is likely to be aimed at the Gr1 Gamely Stakes next.
Stormy Atlantic, a stakes winning son of champion sire Storm Cat, has sired over 80 stakes winners. To date, his progeny have earned in excess of $67 million in prize money.
