R4,2 Million Querari Leads The Way

Hong Kong Jockey Club set the pace

The Hong Kong Jockey Club showed confidence and wielded the big cheque book as they led the way when signing for a smashing Querari colt at R4,2 million early on Day 1 of the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The colt, named Ficksburg, is out of Equus Champion and SA Triple Tiara heroine Cherry On The Top. He was bred by Mauritzfontein Stud.

Catalogued as lot 55, he is a half-brother to the very smart Blossom and his second dam is Fort Wood’s Oaks winner Carolina Cherry

The sale came immediately after a R2,2 million sale of a full brother to SA Horse Of The Year and multiple Equus Champion Legislate – a four time Gr1 winner. His dam is a four time winning own sister to stakes performer Asprey and a half-sister to Gr2 winner Black Skimmer, family of Gr1 winner Roxanne

Bred by Cheveley Stud, the unnamed colt is by the recently deceased champion sire Dynasty and out of the mare Champers. He was bought by Nic Jonsson, whose silks were carried to victory on Sunday by Miyabi Gold in the Listed The Scarlet Lady.

The consecutive lot fireworks added plenty of life to proceedings.

The sale continues – watch it live
