Cape based Varsfontein Stud raised the bar again after setting a new sales record of R5 million in 2017, when their magnificent Dynasty colt Track Attack hit a new high of R5,2 million on the second day of the National Yearling Sale in Johannesburg.

It was just 12 months ago that the Varsfontein bred Goddess Var was sold to UK based Shadwell Racing, marking the highest price paid for a thoroughbred during the sale’s 40-year history.
Since renamed Ghaalla, the lovely filly made a winning debut for Mike de Kock six weeks ago.
On Wednesday it was the high-riding Form Bloodstock who won another spirited bidding duel to secure Track Attack (#191), a Dynasty half-brother to champion Yorker.
Dean Kannemeyer, who trained champion Dynasty, will train day one’s top seller Captain Cherry, and was again the trainer tasked with the responsibility of conditioning the magnificent colt – again for his top international owner.
“Another terrific yearling who ticked all the right boxes. He reminded me so much of his sire and he is well related. It was a tough day again at the top end but my thanks and appreciation to my client, to Form Bloodstock’s Jehan Malherbe, and naturally to Susan Rowett and Carl de Vos and the whole team at Varsfontein. They breed champions every year and the quality is there for the world to see,” said Kannemeyer.
