NHA: Ngcobo Suspended

He waived his right of appeal

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Inquiry was held at its Head Office at Turffontein Racecourse, on 4 May 2016.

National Horseracing AuthorityApprentice Jockey Mr Calvin Ngcobo, who was accompanied by his Riding Master, Mr G Waterston, was charged with a contravention of Rule 77.1.1, read in conjunction with Rule 77.2.9, in that a urine sample taken from him at the Greyville Racecourse on 19 February 2016, disclosed upon analysis the presence of Oxazepam and Temazepam, which are banned substances in terms of the Rules of The National Horseracing Authority.

Mr Ngcobo pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge.

After considering all the facts relevant to this matter and the co-operative manner in which Mr Ngcobo approached the inquiry proceedings, the Board imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of 14 days.

Mr Ngcobo has waived his right of appeal and was granted permission to take his suspension from 10 May to 23 May 2016, both days inclusive.
