Nanako’s Big In Japan!

Rides Copano Kicking in Tokyo

Nanako Fujita will be the first female jockey to compete in a Gr1 race in Japan when she rides Copano Kicking in the Gr1 February Stakes today.

Nanako Fujita – a big day

The Racing Post reports that Copano Kicking has won his past four starts (seven from nine in total), and goes into the race in peak form.

His trainer Akira Murayama has won the Gr1 February Stakes three times in the past.

Fujita rode Copano Kicking in trackwork last week and revealed, “He was very easy to ride. When I received this offer I didn’t believe it, but was delighted. I want to say thank you to the owner and the trainer.”

Last weekend, Fujita won her fiftieth JRA race, and has also won a further 20 on the NAR circuit in Japan.

The previous most winning female JRA rider is Yukiko Masuzawa with 34 wins.
