Mike De Kock has a very exciting youngster on his hands in the Australian bred grey flyer Majmu. The daughter of top stallion Redoute’s Choice made short and rather clinical work of her opposition to win the R200 000 Gr3 Pretty Polly Stakes run over 1100m at Turffontein on Saturday.
The beautiful filly went through her professional paces in a very similar manner to what she had done on her debut when winning the Listed Ruffian Stakes over 100m shorter at the same venue on Guineas Day.
Slightly slow away, Anthony Delpech had her a few lengths off the pace as the Mike Azzie trained Flame Cat went very fast.
At the 400m marker Majmu had worked her way through and she powered clear to win going away by 3 lengths in a time of 63,15 secs.
Anthony Delpech said Majmu had missed the jump by a length and a half and was very green. He added that his mount got into it quickly and said that when the penny drops ‘she is going to be very good.’
Matthew De Kock, deputising for his Dad, thanked the owners as well as Angus Gold and bloodstock consultant Jehan Malherbe.
He said she would be even better over further.
Majmu is now unbeaten in two starts for total stakes of R218 750.
Majmu was bred in Australia by Arrowfield Stud and sold by them at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $300,000 to Shadwell Stud.
She is the second foal of South American Group 1 winner Spontaneous.
Majmu races in the blue and white strip of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum.
As Delpech said last time, she ‘raises the hair on his arms.’
That is a very good sign.
