In what will be welcome news for fans and connections of the SA Horse Of The Year Dave The King, trainer Mike de Kock has reported that the tough-as-teak Global View gelding was examined by a Veterinary Surgeon on Monday 4 November and nothing was found amiss.

“Dave The King is physically fine. He ran a similarly disappointing race in the Charity Mile last year,” added the top conditioner.

As reported on the Mike de Racing website on Sunday 3 November, Dave The King was not persisted with over the last 300m of Saturday’s Allied Steelrode Onamission Gr2 Charity Mile at Turffontein, and jockey Richard Fourie reported that he felt something amiss.

The course veterinarian found after the race that Dave The King was not striding out on his left hind leg, which explains what Richard may have felt.

Mike de Kock commented on Sunday: “Dave The King is an extremely sound horse so this was very uncharacteristic. He was just slightly off behind, not serious and it was hard to make a judgement post-race. He was given anti-inflammatories on Sunday.”

Final Betway Summer Cup entries close at 09h00 on Monday, 18 November 2024, after which weights will be announced.

Declarations must be in by 11h00 on Wednesday, 20 November 2024 and barrier draws will be conducted at a Betway event on 20 November 2024.
