Mike de Kock and Jehan Malherbe of Form Bloodstock have returned from another successful Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney, Australia, at which Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Australasia purchased a number of yearlings for the stable.
The buys include a terrific brown colt by Redoute’s Choice from National Colour, the former South African star sprinter, and Mike said: “We are really chuffed with this colt, he’s a beautiful specimen. We are privileged to have Sheikh Hamdan’s support, thanks also to his racing manager, Angus Gold.”
Redoute’s Choice needs no introduction. Twice Champion sire of Australia, he has already sired 101 stakes winners worldwide – South Africans will be familiar with the likes of Musir, Wylie Hall and Mike’s current juvenile sensation Majmu, also owned by Shadwell.
The lightning fast grey, National Colour (by National Assembly), was one the most popular runners in South Africa in recent years. She was joint Horse Of The Year in her home country in 2005/6, winning seven races including the Gr1 SA Fillies Sprint and the Gr1 Computaform Sprint. Exported, she also won the Gr1 Nad Al Sheba Friday Sprint in Dubai and finished third in the Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes in the UK, crowned 2007/8 Champion Older Female Sprinter in Great Britain.
The Redoute’s Choice colt is National Colour’s second foal.
The flying mare’s first foal, Circle Of Speed (a filly by Sebring), was bought by her owner Chris van Niekerk, who races the offspring in partnership with Markus Jooste She has raced 11 times for two wins and six places and is trained by Sean Tarry, who took National Colour to her great heights.
