Cape Town’s Table Mountain is said to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World and while nothing is ever a foregone conclusion, the planet’s Eighth Wonder may be revealed in Saturday’s Gr1 Avontuur Estate Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth.

The beautiful photograph alongside is of Sheikh Hamdan’s three-year-old Majmu striding along at Kenilworth to the backdrop of the Mountain on Thursday morning, 4 December.

It was snapped by Mathew de Kock some 48 hours ahead of the awe-inspiring grey filly’s first appearance in a Gr1 classic and appropriately delivered to us in classic black-and-white format.

Mike and Diane de Kock were also trackside to oversee Majmu’s breeze-up after her arrival from Johannesburg with travelling partners Ataab (Guineas) and Alboran Sea (Southern Cross Stakes).

Mike commented: “I am happy to report that all three fillies arrived here in fine shape, they took the trip well and we’re looking forward to the race day. I am particularly chuffed with Alboran Sea, she looks a picture.”

The De Kock family will be visiting Drakenstein Stud before lunch at Avontuur farm in Somerset-West on Thursday afternoon.

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
