The Dubai World Cup Carnival gets under way next Thursday 8 January and local punters will be monitoring the progress of Mike De Kock’s three runners at Meydan today with plenty of interest.

The six race programme kicks off at 16h10, where De Kock saddles the Irish bred Mubtaahij in the Billet Trophy run over a mile, and which is also the first leg of the Bipot.

The 2yo son of Dubawi has his third run and will be ridden by Dane O’Neill. He is expected to improve.

De Kock then has to wait until the fourth race (17h55) where he sends out the second favourite Journeyman in the hands of James Doyle.

The easy debut winner only had two runs in SA and was placed in the Gr2 Umkhomazi Stakes.

His has had three runs in Dubai, without showing and likely to need it after a ten month plus break. The son of Trippi runs in the Wilgerbosdrift silks.

The last of the De Kock runners is Lehaaf, who runs in the fifth race(18h30), the  EGA Al Taweela Trophy run over 1200m. The 2013 KZN Winter Challenge and Listed Thukela Handicap winner has had four runs in Dubai for one place.

A jackpot is also offered and kicks off in the third race
