SA stud farm celebrates a magnificent season

Mauritzfontein, one of South Africa’s top stud farms, enjoyed another magnificent season in the recently concluded 2021-2022 season.

Breeding in partnership with Wilgerbosdrift, Mauritzfontein led the Leading Breeders’ log for the season just finished, with Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred horses winning 244 races (including 22 black type races) in 2021-2022 and earning more than R26.78 million in stakes.

Among the top performers representing Mauritzfontein last season were Gr1 World Sports Betting SA Derby winner Aragosta, talented sprinter Smorgasbord, top two-year-old Karangetang, and Listed Michaelmas Handicap winner Donald McDonald, to name but a few.

Maurizfontein will be offering siblings to several equine stars of the 2021-2022 racing season at the Two Year Old Sale on 26 and 27 August.

Among them, is a Pomodoro half-brother (Lot 4) to last season’s Gr3 Protea Stakes/Listed Storm Bird Stakes victor Karangetang, an Ideal World half-brother (Lot 84) to 2022 Gr3 Marshalls World Of Sport Gold Cup runner up Imperial Ruby, and a Danon Platina half-brother (Lot 101) to 2022 Listed Syringa Handicap queen Ululate.

Other standout lots on offer include Holding Thumbs (Lot 156), a Vercingetorix colt out of Oaks Trial runner up Withbatedbreath, and Fearless Badger (Lot 180), a Rafeef colt from the same female line as last season’s Gr2 Senor Santa Stakes winner Smorgasbord.

Mauritzfontein’s August Sale draft can be viewed, in its entirety, in Blocks F and H at the TBA Complex this week.
