The start of the 2018 Mauritius racing season has been postponed by a week from 24 March to Saturday 31 March.
The MTC announced on Tuesday that the Board of Directors, in consultation with the trainers, made the decision to postpone the first meeting.
The move is as a result of the bad weather, including very heavy rains, that have persisted over large parts of the island.
The preparation of horses has thus fallen behind in Floréal or the Champ de Mars.
The presence of cloud bands associated with the tropical cyclone Dumazile have resulted in very heavy and flooded tracks, with no short term respite in sight.
A decision will be made later in respect of a rescheduling of the abandoned first meeting.
