Mauritian Stipes Ask The Questions

Transparency the key to clean and fair racing?

TacticsFollowing an inquiry held on Tuesday morning into the handling of Lucky Valentine in race 7 last Saturday, trainer Shailesh Ramdin has been fined Rs 20,000 (about R6700) for not having informed the Racing Stewards of a change in tactics.

His jockey Sherman Brown was also questioned.

The 13-8 shot Lucky Valentine ran fourth and 2,15 lengths behind 7-1 winner Parado in the seventh race, the Professor Hassan Raffa Cup.

The Racing Stewards also called in Rye Joorawon . The Mauritian champion jockey had ridden Storm Alterno (Race 1) at 55kg, instead of 54kg, as was stated in the official race card.

His explanations were accepted, but he was also warned not to repeat this.
