Jockey Marco van Rensburg will be operated on for a fractured clavicle at a Johannesburg hospital this evening.
Van Rensburg was dislodged from his mount Bondiblu, who broke down at approximately the 600m marker during the running of the Sun Chariot Handicap at Turffontein on Saturday.
The injury is a blow for Van Rensburg, who is enjoying a good season. He earlier won the Listed Oaks Trial on Fayrooz and has ridden 67 winners. He is currently at eighth position on the national log.
He is likely to be out for six weeks.
Tragically, Bondiblu, who appeared to step badly, had to be humanely euthenased.
