2yo filly from the first crop of Moutonshoek stallion Marchfield made $470k

From the first crop of the Moutonshoek stallion Marchfield, a 2yo filly sold for $470k last week, at the Fasig-Tipton Summer Selected Horses of Racing Age Sale in Kentucky.

The filly is the second foal of her dam, who didn’t win, but is a half sister by Deputy Minister to Gr1 winner Take Charge Lady. The latter is the dam of US Champion 3yo Will Take Charge (Unbridled’s Song) and of G1 Florida Derby winner Take Charge Indy (by Marchfield’s sire AP Indy).

The 2yo filly, named Bath Village, is from the first crop of Marchfield who won seven races from a mile to a mile and a half in Canada. He was twice voted Champion Older Male in that country. Marchfield’s dam Pico Teneriffe is a Gr3 winner, and was Canada’s Broodmare of the Year in 2009. She is by Red Ransom out of a mare bred on the Mr Prospector x Northern Dancer cross, from a solid black type family known in South Africa through half brothers Home Guard and Peaceable Kingdom whose dam is a full sister to Boldnesian. The latter is in the male line of AP Indy, Marchfield’s sire.

Rated Timeform 118, Marchfield stood two seasons in Canada, before taking up stud duties at Bennie van der Merwe’s Moutonshoek Stud in 2013. His first South African foals are due next month.
