Surely, surely? Irrespective of where Potala Palace and The Apache should have or could have finished ……
Mr. Azzie, God bless him, could have deployed a smarter game plan for Potala Palace in the Dingaans.
Considering Mr Azzie’s aspirations for his Champ to be 100 % ready for The South African Derby, surely it would have been wiser to teach Potala Palace to settle a bit and let him learn to run past horses?
Need I remind racing enthusiasts of the long run-in at Turffontein, the distance and the chance of yielding going when the Derby is run.
No Sir, not for Mr. A , it was full steam ahead in The Dingaans.
And The Apache…… win, lose or draw, The Apache found himself in the most handy position in The Summer Cup than any other race he had ever competed in.
Other than What a Winter or Lord Randolph… The Apache can “turn it on a ticky”. Dancewiththedevil comes from stone last to win off a easy pace ….so why not The Apache?
In the July, it was unbelievable how much ground he made up after it was claimed that the early pace of the race was just mediocre!
Now with the long run in at Turffontein he/the connections decide to go very handy and attack early in the straight ….. crickey!
Good Luck to the relevant trainers.
