How Far Will He Stay?

I am a big fan of Cape Town Noir but I couldn’t be more impressed by Paterfamilias willing spirit and enthusiastic finish in the Selangor.

Unlike many other Cape racing enthusiasts, I don’t respect the Selangor form that much as so many have historically been run at a crawl and then developed into a 300m sprint.

My question or query is were to now with Paterfamilias. I’m battling to convince myself if his pedigree will allow him to be effective over 1800m+.  His grand-dam Skating, was she effective over 1600? ( I was away in England when she ran) and his great grand-dam Sun on Snow was a sprinter… if I remember correctly.

Trippi is an out and out sprinter and his progeny have had no serious success over 1800+.

End Sweep, Trippi’s sire was a dirt sprinter as well. One of his sons, Admire Moon was top class over 2000m+, but out of a Sunday Silence mare !

It’s easy to surmise that because Paterfamilias visually finished strongly over this 1600m that he surely is crying out for further….but that means squat in my book.

Any thoughts on Paterfamilias future prospects and best distance?

Editor Comments:  The dam of Paterfamilias, La Patoneur (by Badger Land), won 6 races up to a mile. She seems to have taken after the next dam Skating (3 wins up to a mile; by Where To Dance) rather than her sire Badger Land.

Skating also is grandam of highclass Gluwein (best around a mile, but seemed effective to at least 2000m; by Jet Master) and Avalanche Way (effective to a mile; by London News). The dam of these is Apres-Ski, a 1000m winner at 2, by Our Casey’s Boy.

A half sister to Apres-Ski, Skid Alley (3 wins to 1200m; by Elliodor) is dam of highclass Ice Diamond (5 wins to 2000m and best over that distance; by Dynasty) and highly rated Ice Machine (MR 106, 5 wins to a mile, not tried further; by Silvano).

A half sister to Paterfamilias is La Patineuse (4 wins to 1600m; not tried further; by National Emblem).

Putting all this stamina information in the hat, it seems that Paterfamilias will most likely be best up to a mile.
