Solitary Redoute’s Choice Colt Tops Sale

Average is slightly up

A cracking colt by champion sire Redoute’s Choice topped the 2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale when selling to international investors for $480,000 on Friday.

The colt, the only by his sire on offer this week, attracted spirited bidding and when the gavel fell it was Stuart Boman of UK based Blandford Bloodstock who had beaten all challengers.

Catalogued as Lot 611, the youngster is from the regally related Stravinsky mare Victoire Celebre and is a half brother to Sydney stakes winner Arab Dawn.

“Obviously he was one of the best horses here,” Boman reported. “He’s by a stallion that needs no introduction that unfortunately died earlier this year.”

“He was an obvious horse to target and it is likely he will be offered next year as a yearling.”

“He’s a very similar profile horse to The Autumn Sun. He’s from a European family, staying background, the pedigrees are very similar.”

Bowman said he and his clients were underbidders on the top priced filly of the sale, yesterday’s Teofilo youngster who sold for $425,000.

Today’s top selling filly was the I Am Invincible youngster from multiple stakes winner and The Galaxy runner-up Anatina who realised $380,000.

That filly, presented by Segenhoe Stud Australia, was purchased by American based outfit Oakmont.

Four other weanlings sold for $300,000 today – three of them sold by Aquis Farm Operations. One was a Frosted half sister to Santa Ana Lane to Redwall Bloodstock, another was the Medaglia d’Oro-Yolo Girl colt to Fernrigg Farm and the third was the Fastnet Rock-Two Beauties colt to Victoria’s IDK Racing.

The fourth $300,000 lot for the day was Yarraman Park Stud’s I Am Invincible-Swooning colt who sold to New Zealand’s Lyndhurst Farm.

The sale rounded out with a record average price of almost $63,500 and record sale gross of $27,876,000. The clearance rate continues to rise and this afternoon sat at 78 per cent.

“We came home really strong today,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. “It was a really strong finish to Book One with six of the top ten horses of the sale being sold today.”

“To see the quality horses sell for well in excess of what the vendors were looking for was fantastic.”

“It’s a surprise to me to see the average go up slightly on last year. Last year we had a few dispersals and I wasn’t expecting the average to be able to surpass that level.”

“It was good to see so many different people spreading their money across the sale.”

Attention now switches to the National Broodmare Sale which commences on Tuesday and continues through to Friday.

“I’m really looking forward to the race fillies and maiden mares on Tuesday and then continuing through the pregnant mares for the remainder of the week.”

“There some amazing quality in the sale and importantly there will be opportunities at all levels of the market,” Bowditch added.
