Head-Butt Costs Jockey Six Months

Instantaneous no-nonsense action by Aussie Stipes

Queensland jockey Luke Tarrant will have half a year to ruminate on his spur of the moment head-butt of fellow rider Larry Cassidy at Wednesday’s Doomben meeting.

According to AAP, the altercation occurred following a ‘scrimmage’ between the pair during the ninth race.

The duo initially clashed verbally before the incident turned physical at the weighing scales.

Stewards said that in immediately disqualifying Tarrant for 6 months they took into account the significant contact to the 49 year old Cassidy which resulted in injury to his nose.

Additionally, the incident breached strict COVID-19 social protocols with its concomitant potential to impact the industry.

Tarrant pleaded guilty to the charges and will be allowed to return to racing on October 22.

The 25 year old Tarrant has ridden 375 career winners, gaining his biggest successes at Gr2 level.
