Log for J&B Met

Jackson - Gr1 Investec Cape Derby 2012

Jackson. Tops the log

The initial log for the R2.5-million J&B Met to be run over 2000m at Kenilworth 1 February at Kenilworth has just been released. Many of the marginal horses, as well as some prime contenders, are engaged to run this weekend.

Shifts in log position and the ante-post betting market after the Gr1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, Gr1 Maine Chance Farms Paddock Stakes and Gr2 Glorious Goodwood Peninsula Handicap are possible. A revised log will be published after the running of the L’Ormarins Queens Plate.

The Gr1 J&B Met is staged as a Conditions race with base weights of 53kg for three-year-olds and 58kg for four-year-olds and older. A sex allowance of 2.5kg for fillies and mares applies.

On top of that base, winners of open Gr1 races get a 2kg penalty.

However, winners of Grade 1 races restricted to three-year-olds will receive a 1kg penalty, while winners of Gr1 two-year-old races are exempt from a penalty.

None of these burdens is accumulative and will only apply to races won 18 months prior to the issuing of the weights. No further penalties will be allocated after the publication of weights.

The log listed below by the handicappers and racing operators indicates their current preference of who will get into the race based, inter alia, on the following three criteria – current merit rating, recent form and competitiveness in Graded and Listed races over the past year.
