Zimbabwe Jockey Passes Away

Had his first ride at Flamingo Park in 2004

Former Borrowdale Park jockey Lloyd Watambwa has passed away.

The Zimbabwe Racing facebook page tells that he died in the South Eastern Harare town of Epworth.

No causes were given.

Lloyd was in the first intake of apprentices when the Borrowdale Jockey Academy reopened in 2002 – a group that included Morgan Nyamagwete, Cashington Kudumba, and Tatenda Guta, to name but a few.

Lloyd’s first ride was at Flamingo Park in August 2004.

He rode his first winner, Alashan, at Borrowdale Park on 18 February 2007, and won four more races before leaving for the United Kingdom during 2008.

The Sporting Post extends condolences to the bereaved family and friends.
