Arne Slot’s men have enjoyed a stellar debut season under the Dutch manager, sitting 12 points clear at the Premier League summit.
However, a bruising week, featuring a Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain and a limp defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final, has sparked whispers of doubt.
Are the Reds at risk of a fleeting title triumph? Slot and the Anfield hierarchy are determined to prove otherwise.
After a quiet summer that saw only Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili arrive, Liverpool are poised to flex their financial muscle.
Spanish outlet Fichajes reported that the club have earmarked 300 million euros to bolster their squad, targeting reinforcements across the pitch.
Leading the charge is Atletico Madrid’s lethal striker Julian Alvarez. The Argentine, who once dazzled at Manchester City, carries a hefty 150 million euros release clause, but Liverpool are ready to pay it.
“His versatility in attack makes him perfect for Slot’s system,” a source told Fichajes. “Signing him would be a game-changer for the Reds’ frontline.”
Alvarez has been in scintillating form, and his potential arrival would send shockwaves through the Premier League.
In midfield, the Reds have set their sights on Xavi Simons, currently on loan at RB Leipzig from PSG. The dynamic playmaker, valued at around 75 million euros, could inject the creativity Liverpool have craved since losing key figures in recent years.
“Simons brings quality and energy, exactly what Slot’s engine room needs,” the report noted.
Completing the trio is Inter Milan’s defensive rock, Alessandro Bastoni. Priced at 75 million euros, the Italian’s composure and ball-playing ability align seamlessly with Slot’s philosophy. “Bastoni is the final piece to solidify Anfield’s backline,” the source added.
The ambitious overhaul comes amid uncertainty over Liverpool’s biggest stars. Mohamed Salah has twice hinted at stalled contract talks this season, admitting no progress has been made.
Trent Alexander-Arnold remains a target for Real Madrid, who tried, and failed, to lure him in January.
Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk has stayed focused but teased an update after the Newcastle loss. “Before the season ends, there’ll be news,” he said. “I’m fully committed and love this club, that’s what matters.”
For now, the Reds are plotting a transfer coup to match their Premier League swagger.
