Trainer Mike Azzie and jockey JP Van der Merwe scored the first leg of a scintillating feature double at the Vaal on Saturday, when the Ideal World filly Peep Show scored a facile win in the R150 000 Listed Supreme Fillies & Mares Stakes .

The winning combination were in hot form with three winners on the afternoon and Peep Show was not winning out of turn – having scored an emphatic course and distance victory at her previous start.

After Royal Trip had lost a few lengths, JP Van der Merwe worked quite hard to get Peep Show into a position from her 5 draw. She had been slightly squeezed at the jump, but the knock had no impact on her enthusiasm.

After 200m, she was two lengths off Run For Revelry, Lady Casey and the weak favourite, Walking On Air. The balance of the fourteen horse field were strung out behind.

Van der Merwe made his move for glory at the 800m marker as he took the flag from Run For Revelry and grabbed a lead.

For some it had looked like he may have made his move a touch early – but the further they went, the stronger Peep Show became.

The 4yo strode clear to win by 2,30 lengths in a time of 89,68 secs.

Piere Strydom kept Run For Revelry going to run a game second, ahead of Walking On Air, who was a further 2,40 lengths back in third.

All the top three had been there for much of the way, and there was little change to the order of running as they flashed past the post with generous gaps between them.

Mike De Kock’s Maria Theresa was never in the race and produced a dismal performance.

Peep Show has won 5 races with 7 places from 21 starts for stakes of R460 200.

She was bred by Mauritzfontein and is by Ideal World out of the one-time winning Fort Wood mare, Topless Towers.

That makes her a full sister to Justin Snaith’s promising 3yo Ilium – who interestingly shed her maiden over 2000m. Peep Show has plenty of pace and has won up to a mile.
