The Drakenstein owned and bred Fresnaye finally found the right field to score her third win when storming to victory in the R150 000 Listed Stormsvlei Mile at Kenilworth on Saturday.
With first leg winner Too Phat To Fly campaigning in KZN, the 2018 Highlands Cape Winter Series for fillies won’t be won this season.
But Fresnaye looks a live prospect for the Oaks after her good win on Saturday and gave Richard Fourie a feature double after scoring on Rainbow Bridge in the Winter Classic. This certainly vindicated Fourie’s decision to stay at home rather than travel to Scottsville for the Gr1 speed spectacular.
Trainer Joey Ramsden, who saddled Olympic Duel Stakes winner Call To Account, also celebrated a double.
Fresnaye has faced the best over the past six months. Snowdance, Oh Susanna, Eyes Wide open and Rainbow Bridge are the winners of the last four races she has contested. Two of the four was against the boys.
Back against slightly lesser ranking of her own sex on Saturday, Richard Fourie had her relaxed early before unleashing her down the outside with a big effort inside the 300m.
With a good finishing burst, Fresnaye went on to win by 1,25 lengths in a time of 99,57 secs
Paddy Kruyer’s Cape Charlotte ran a cracker at her first try beyond the sprints to stay on well for second ahead of the more fancied Platinum Class.
Fresnaye is a daughter of Western Winter (Gone West) out of the beautifully bred Gulf Breeze (Dubai Destination) – the latter is a half-sister to sires Medaaly and Charnwood Forest.
Fresnaye has won 3 races with 4 places from 11 starts and stakes of R422 350.
