Runners from the Candice Bass-Robinson and Justin Snaith yards filled the top six places in the second of the midweek feature double billing, the R85 000 Listed Somerset 1200, at Kenilworth on Wednesday afternoon.
The Milnerton-based lady trainer came out tops overall over the national log-leading Snaith, with the Drakenstein owned and bred recent open company maiden winner Trip Of Fortune (3-1) producing a sustained effort to beat his more experienced yard mate Barzalona (8-1) by a comfortable 1,25 lengths in a time of 73,22 secs.
Keagan de Melo rode a confident race to give Drakenstein Stud’s champion resident sire Trippi his 83rd stakes winner.
The winner is out of the versatile ten-time winning Doowaley mare, Louvre. He is bred and owned by Drakenstein, and is listed as a R750 000 National Yearling Sale graduate.
Trip Of Fortune is one of five two-year-old winners in 2020-2021 for Trippi, whose 2yo daughter Santa Maria ran third in the Listed World Sports Betting Perfect Promise Sprint on the same afternoon.
Trippi has a single lot on the CTS Farm Yearling Sale on 20 June, and two lots on the KZN Yearling Sale, which is scheduled for 1 and 2 July.
