Horseracing seldom acknowledges simple improvement. But if there was an Equus award for the most improved filly of the season, it could only go to one lady. Go Deputy’s daughter Adobe Pink registered her fourth straight win in the R135 000 Listed Queen Palm Handicap at Clairwood on Saturday.
The small field that went to post for this 2500m feature was a competitive one on the face of it, but none of the seven opposition had any answers to Adobe Pink’s sustained late run.
Backed into a 5 to 2 joint favourite with the seven time winner Pacific Dynasty, Gavin Van Zyl’s Cherry On The Cake also had her supporters at 9 to 2.
Rachel Leigh led Daily Flight and Cherry On The Cake, with Beloved Betty, Pacific Dynasty and Adobe Pink.
The lead changed with Daily Flight going off to lead for 700m before Yeni shook Rachel Leigh up again at the 1000m marker.
In the run for home the 14 to 1 outsider Sounds Of Tigers moved forward and looked to cause the upset as the rest appeared to be languishing.
But Anthony Delpech added some civility to the occasion by unleashing Adobe Pink at the 300m.
With most of those around her stopping badly, Adobe Pink swept into the lead with plenty in hand to win going away by 0,75 lengths in a time of 155,99 secs. Neil Bruss trained the winner for Sally Jourdan.
Sounds Of Tigers showed tremendous improvement in second, while Shimmering Jet ran a distant 7,25 length third.
Adobe Pink was bred by Lammerskraal Stud and is out of the prolific producing four-time winning Pas De Quoi mare, Nacarat. She is related to some very smart sorts, including the Gr1 winner Nania.
Adobe Pink has now won 6 from 18 starts with 2 places. Her stakes earnings went to R367 625.
This was her fourth straight win and she should continue to go from strength to strength.
