Great Families Work!

Varsfontein could have another decent sort

The well-related Amy Johnson had Snaith Racing spokesman Jono Snaith speaking in terms of the Cape Fillies Guineas after her dashing last gasp win in the R150 000 Listed Perfect Promise Sprint at Kenilworth on Sunday.

An elated Susan Rowett of the champion nursery Varsfontein, was over the moon – although it was tight.

“We don’t normally keep them out of young mares, but we couldn’t repeat the mating with Captain Al so it worked out well! Although she looked like a little bush pony early on,” she laughed.

After following her six opponents for much of the race, Amy Johnson flew up the outside and got the verdict by a short head from Drama Queen in a time of 74,72 secs.

Richard Fourie labelled her ‘special’.

A winner of 1 race from 2 starts, Amy Johnson took her stakes earnings to R101 750.

A grey daughter of Captain Al, Amy Johnson is a three parts sister to Bela-Bela. She is out of the four-time winning Jet Master mare, Touch The Sky, who won up to 2200m. Touch The Sky is out of the prolific winner producer Mystic Spring, a daughter of Royal Academy.
