On The Right Path

Pathfork's son Fools Gold stays every inch of the mile

Ridgemont jockey Anton Marcus found himself back amongst the feature winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday when Fools Gold showed his last run was all wrong and galloped all the way to win the R150 000 Listed Model Man Mile.

Marcus acknowledged that the handicappers are obviously a lot smarter than he is.

“His stablemate Into The Future (rated 89) gave him a hiding in work last week. So I thought we had a problem taking him on here. Just goes to show that the truth is stranger than fiction sometimes,” laughed the former champion.

From the yard of Robbie and Shannon Hill, the Limestone Thoroughbred Trust bred Fools Gold showed his class when romping to a facile four length win in a time of 96,76 secs.

Brooklyn (25-1) was a well beaten second 4 lengths adrift, with Gauteng visitor Battle Of Alesia plodding into third.

Out of the Goldmark mare Jodi’s Gold, Fools Gold made it 2 wins with 1 place from 5 starts for stakes of R180 375.

He was purchased for R70 000 off the 2018 CTS April Yearling Sale.

He is a son of the prolific winner producing Irish champion Pathfork, who continues to up his game.

A Distorted Humor half-brother to this year’s Gr1 Preakness Stakes winner War Of Will, Pathfork has two colts on offer at this month’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.
