While her international Gr1 winning sire was imported with the aim of producing classic horses, the top-class 2018 East Cape Nursery winner Carlita is lethal over the Fairview 1000m and she defied the weight turnaround of her last course and distance victory to repeat the feat at Fairview on Friday.
Going off a weak 3-1 favourite in the Listed Milkwood Stakes, the 2018 East Cape Fillies Nursery winning daughter of Avontuur sire Oratorio registered the first stakes victory of her 3yo career in good style.
After Seattle Oak had done the donkey work, Bernard Fayd’herbe unleashed Carlita and she stormed home to beat the late finishing and consistent Horse Haizi by a half length in a time of 57,28 secs.
The winner’s stablemate Make It Raine ran on steadily a quarter length back into third.
The Piemonte Stud-bred Carlita has now won six races from thirteen starts with four places for stakes of R454 300. She races in the interests of Vaal trainer Ashley Fortune and the Greeffs.
She has turned out to be a genuinebargain buy at R35 000 off the KZN Yearling Sale. As mentioned, she is by Oratorio (Danehill) out of Auburn Annio (Point Given).
Her trainer Alan Greeff and his traditional rival Gavin Smith shared the training honours on the afternoon at three winners apiece.
