Richard Fourie gave an illuminating demonstration of how to knock the stuffing out of the Cape Crawl when he took the Listed Irridescence Stakes by the scruff of the neck at the 1200m marker and dictated matters on the Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner Coral Bay.

The Glen Kotzen-trained daughter of Ideal World was having her first run around the turn in the 1500m feature after shedding her maiden in the Listed Kenilworth Fillies Nursery at her third start last time.
With nobody willing to race early – a familiar poser for punters here – Fourie sent Coral Bay around her field and she made every yard of the running.
Despite a measure of uncertainty halfway down the home run, probably a result of running green and alone down the centre of the track, she was full value when beating Santa Clara with authority by a half length in a time of 95,6 secs.
Recent maiden winner Helen’s Ideal – like the winner a daughter of Ideal World out of a Fort Wood mare – came on late to snatch third a further two lengths back. The rest were well beaten.
Now a dual stakes winner, Coral Bay, who is a leading contender for Cape Champion 2yo Filly, was purchased by Glen Kotzen Racing for R60 000 off the 2017 BSA Mistico Yearling Sale.

A daughter of Ideal World (Kingmambo), who is a form sire of note this season, she was bred by Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein out of the unraced Fort Wood mare, Bonze.
