Jockey Aldo Domeyer shared riding honours with Chris Puller with three winners at Kenilworth on Saturday. This included a feature double, the first leg of which was an armchair effort on the Captain Al filly Pure Power in the R125 000 Listed Irridescence Stakes run over 1500m.
Only seven two year fillies went to post for the girls’ equivalent of the Langerman, which w as run a half hour earlier. The lack of numbers was made up for a smart performance by a promising filly bred by The Alchemy and who looks to be making all of the right noises.
Pure Power has done little wrong since winning on debut at the end of January.
Smart placed efforts in the Listed Perfect Promise Sprint and the Gr3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery down the sprint track had shown a decided lack of toe and it was inevitable that the extra 300m of Saturday’s race would bring out the best in Pure Power.
Pure Power was always in the firing line as Eyeofthepanther led her and Darling Moon, with the promising Vol De Nuit further back.
Into the straight Vol De Nuit made her move as Pure Power glided into the lead at the 200m marker.
She drew off to win at 28 to 10 from the fast finishing Darling Moon and Speed Merchant.
Pure Power is a R1 million Cape Premier Yearling Sale Book 1 graduate. She was bred by the Alchemy and is a daughter of Captain Al out of the one time winning National Assembly mare, Just Assembly.
She has now won twice and been placed thrice from her five starts.
She took her earnings to R169 475.
It was pleasing to see the Marsh Shirtliff silks back in the winner’s enclosure, and this is not the last we have heard from Pure Power.
