The Trippi filly Cotton Candy could atone for her recent narrow defeat in the East Cape Fillies Nursery
Justin Snaith’s talented Trippi filly Cotton Candy takes on the local boys in Friday’s R150 000 Moutonshoek Stud Listed East Cape Nursery to be run over 1200m. With no standout star in the line up, she could go one better after a narrow loss at her last start.
The unbeaten Wilgerbosdrift bred filly Rosier doesn’t run here and she was Cotton Candy’s conqueror in the Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery run a fortnight ago over the course and distance.
Good Experience
The two came together in the final 200m of that race and Cotton Candy, while beaten by the better filly on the day, may have been intimidated by the proximity of the gallop.
While Kotzen’s Rosier went away from her in the latter stages, she still stayed on way ahead of te rest of that field.
Richard Fourie will know best what to do differently on Friday and she may be allowed to stride more freely. She also has the advantage of the 1 draw, which has proved favourable in recent times at the track.
Cotton Candy is possessed of plenty of speed but is out of a Rakeen mare who won up to 2000m and she looks like she will go a mile in time to come.
She could well go in for her third win from five starts.
Smith Trio
The major problem in assessing formlines in the juvenile races is the likelihood of major improvement from one start to the next and the natural advanced precocity of the femailes.
Gavin Smith saddles a trio of Frederick Fox, Rushing Lark and Shine Like A Star.
All are recent maiden winners and the best may be Aldo Domeyer’s ride Shine Like A Star.
He appears to hold Frederick Fox on his three length defeat over 1000m last time, but Frederick Fox did improve to win well at is second outing.
The son of Stage Call produced his winning run over Friday’s course and distance and the extra 200m could negate Shine Like A Star’s perceived advantage.
Rushing Lark ran tree second before winning when beatin Scuzami last time. There is no negative to suggest that he will not enjoy the 200m extra.
Greeff Duet
Alan Greeff saddles the two debut winning fillies, Artic Sails and Ciao Caro.
They are both well held by Cotton Candy on the East Cape Fillies Nursery result and look unlikely to turn the tables on the talented Cape visitor.
Bremner’s Three
Yvette Bremner is another trainer with three runners in the race.
The Lecture gelding Pacyano has run two excellent races and is all of 3kgs better off with Frederick Fox for a quarter length beating last time over the course and distance.
Bremner also saddles debut winner Priceless Sail.
The daughter of Sail From Seattle beat Dancing Natasha on debut when well fancied and this will be her big test in mixed company.
The third of the Bremner trio is Blast, who along with Future Leader are still maidens and could battle.
The Windrush gelding Blast has not shown a lot of pace at his opening three runs but has earned every time.
Future Leader ran sixteen lengths back on debut, when nibbled at in the betting. He looks to be bred for a little further and the others are preferred.
Vote For Candy
There is plenty to like about Cotton Candy and the Snaith feature strike rate is phenomenal. Her breeders Wilgerbosdrift ad a terrific day at Turffontein on Saturday and their sweet run sould continue.
The experience of a fight over the final stages of her last outing with the obviously talented Rosier will stand her in good stead to go all the way in a race like tis.
The Miesque’s Approval colt Sine Like A Star is improving with every run and he could provide te major opposition.
The Danika Stud bred Pacyano has also done little wrong and he is another to consider.
