Philippi trainer Brett Crawford celebrated his first success in the R350 000 Listed East Cape Derby since 2008 when racing under the Sabine Plattner banner, when the Dynasty colt American Landing ran right away from his field to win the 2400m feature in front of a disappointing crowd at Fairview on Saturday.

Crawford saddled Just Like Al in 2008 and bounced back ten years later to score a second win,
The race, dominated by the Cape raiders for the past nine years, proved a walk in the park for the handsome Dynasty colt, who races in the familiar black and white of Delma Sherrell.
Relaxed by Richard Fourie early as Golden Shamrock and Desert Chief went off to lead in what was effectively a seperate race. The pair were ten lengths ahead of the second group headed by Kimberley Star and Streetfighting Man.
American Landing moved up swiftly in the home run. The good looking colt took the lead away from Golden Shamrock at the 350m marker and charged clear to win unchallenged by 5,75 lengths in a time of 150,61 secs.
Yvette Bremner’s Go Deputy filly and recent Oaks winner Widow’s Lamp was not disgraced as she came out of the pack to chase and bank the R70 000 second cheque.
West Coast visitor Run Red stayed on for third ahead of the game Golden Shamrock, who was all of 7 lengths back in a scattered finish.
American Landing has won 2 races with 2 places from 5 starts for stakes of R286 350.

He was purchased off the De Broglio dispersal on the 2017 BSA August Kenilworth Sale where he was by far the highest priced lot at R1,6 million.
A son of Dynasty (Fort Wood), the winner was bred by Mike de Broglio and is out of the versatile five-time winner Sabina Park (Sportsworld), who won the SA Oaks in 2004.
That makes him a full-brother to last weekend’s Gr2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes winner Sabina’s Dynasty and a half brother to dual Summer Cup winner Master Sabina (Jet Master).
Crawford may have his eye on the Cape Winter Derby after this superb effort.
