Rattray Celebrates Christmas Handicap Glory

Kannemeyer enjoys another feature success

The Millstream Farm-bred Vercingetorix gelding Mount Anderson registered an overdue stakes success when he finished strongly under his handy galloping weight to win the Listed Christmas Handicap on a tough day at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.

Going off at 10/1 Mount Anderson was always stalking the leaders and he finished with a good rattle to beat the equally consistent Mr Fitz by a half -length in 95,31sec.

Cape Met entry and race favourite Baby Shooz was given a perfect ride by Muzi Yeni and loomed large down the inside rail late in the race.  He was beaten a head by Mr Fitz into third.

The success maintained a golden week for Kannemeyer, who won the Cape Guineas a week earlier with surprise winner Russian Rock.

Mount Anderson is raced by Mike and Norma Rattray, longstanding Kannemeyer patrons and was purchased off the National Yearling Sale for R650 000.

He is out of the high-class Al Mufti mare Golden Minaret, who won five times from 1000m to 2000m.

While he has some way to go to recoup his cost price, he is a regular earner and does not have too much milage on the clock.

Mount Anderson has won 4 races with 5 places from his 13 starts for stakes of just under R300 000.
