Gavin Smith Team Firing On All Cylinders

21 runners today at Fairview - the yard to follow!

Avishek Gopaul’s Mauritius based Future Racing Syndicate celebrated a thrilling feature victory as part owners of the Gavin Smith-trained Peace In Our World, an eyecatching winner of Friday’s R100 000 Listed Champion Juvenile Cup at Fairview.

One of a three winners on the day for the red-hot Gavin Smith yard, Lyle Hewitson produced the Varsfontein Stud-bred son of Ideal World in his post-maiden outing after a tardy start with a flashy late run at 8-1 up the outside to beat the dual feature winning Whatever Next by 0,75 lengths in a time of 85,67 secs.

In the process, the colt became Ideal World’s 27th individual stakes winner – and follows Kimberley Star as a Champion Juvenile Cup winner for the son of Kingmambo.

Alan Greeff star Whatever Next was going for his fourth consecutive victory, but had no answers for the sustained finishing burst of the Smith galloper.

Hollywoodbets sponsored Gavin Smith was saddling his 126th winner of the season and he has formed an inspired partnership with Lyle Hewitson – their current win strike-rate is 21%.

A R70 000 National Yearling Sale purchase, Peace In Our World is out of the Horse Chestnut mare, Our Lady Peace and is bred on the same Ideal World/Horse Chestnut cross as the Met winning champion Smart Call.

Peace In Our World has won 2 of his 3 starts for stakes of R97 500.

The Future Racing Syndicate are passionate about their racing and recently extended their footprint here when purchasing a Ridgemont Highlands-bred Canford Cliffs colt (#135) off the De Grendel Farm Sale for R100 000.

Syndicate spokesman Avi Gopaul told the Sporting Post that they loved racing here in South Africa.

He said the Vodacom Durban July was very popular on the island and even though their fancy Rainbow Bridge (coincidentally a son of Ideal World, like their Fairview feature winner) had failed to deliver, they had enjoyed the entertainment spectacle of the great race.

  • Gavin Smith has 21 runners at Fairview this afternoon – the first race is off at 12h30.
