Lim’s Knight Can Win

Singapore - Sunday 31 July

As the Southern Hemisphere season comes to an end, the 2YO’s get another chance to add a Group race to their CV’s with the Juvenile Championship the feature of the day.

And in the case of LIM’S RACER, it’s another Group win as she comes off a thrilling victory in the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe.

The filly beat CAORUNN on that occasion to make it two wins from three career starts and the pair could very well fight out the finish in this Group 3 over 1200m.

It is a considerably smaller field than the Golden Horseshoe but you would expect them again to be prominent throughout and it would be a brave man to tip against them.

In saying that the small field will give ATHENA a chance as she should be travelling a bit closer to the pair than in the Golden Horseshoe and most others keep things interesting given they all have shown ability including SKYWALK who bolted in on debut and MACARTHUR who already has two wins to his name.

frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120Elsewhere on the card, another horse from the Lim-owned stable, LIM’S KNIGHT, can win first-up after having a fair crack in the 3YO Classic.

Given the rising 4YO resumes with a solid trial in Kranji Stakes D Company, he might be too good for what looks a moderate field with AMAZON GOLD the biggest danger on paper.

Race 5

Selections; 2 LIM’S SHOWCASE – 1 ASPREY – 7 PRECHAGORDA – 3 NOVA SPIRIT
A Class 4 over 1200m brings together a competitive field. LIM’S SHOWCASE just missed in this company last start when going forward from a wide gate. The 3YO has drawn wide again but has to be hard to beat. ASPREY is suited at this class and distance; he hung in last start and was deprived of the race in the Stewards room; Manoel Nunes takes over from Alan Munro and he should be running on and be hard to hold off. NOVA SPIRIT is consistent at this level and won one of these two starts back; he should get a good run throughout. PRECHAGORDA is a maiden but racing well – including a close up placing to Super Line last start – and may be value.

1 ASPREY *** Resuming after hanging in last start and was deprived in stewards room. Should be running on and be hard to hold off. 3.50
2 LIM’S SHOWCASE *** Just missed in this company last start. Should be running on and can make amends. 3.50
3 NOVA SPIRIT *** Consistent at this level and won one of these two starts back. Should get a good run throughout. 4.00
4 LAKE HUKA ** Won KSD two starts back and battled on in this company last start. Could show up. 10
5 DASH OF CLASS ** Resumed with a solid effort and should be improved. Will be running on late. 10
6 PERKINS * Resuming after changing stables. Only win was on poly and may want easier. 33
7 PRECHAGORDA *** Maiden who just missed in this grade last start and pay to follow. 10
8 ORCHARD ROAD * Resuming. Only win was on poly and wants easier. 33
9 FAST JET * Battling. Only win was on poly and wants easier. 25
10 SUGARTIME JAZZ ** Has run on fairly at past two outings. Could show up but may be looking for easier. 20
11 PERCIUS * Needs Class 5. 33

Race 6

Selections; 4 READY FORTUNE – 1 DAAD’S THE WAY – 3 CHEETAH KING – 5 ZAHIR
Another battler’s Class 5, this one over a mile. READY FORTUNE’s only turf win was at this trip; he is a Class 5 journeyman who will be battling on and won’t find one much weaker than this. DAADS THE WAY is a rising 11YO having his 116th start. He battled away last start and there may be life yet given he has won eight times at this trip and could show up in this field of non-winners. CHEETAH KING’s recent form is poor but he has won three times at this trip and should be running on. MASURAO improved last start and is suited at this distance; he could go forward and give a sight. Of the others ZAHIR broke through last start and could be on the improve.

1 DAAD’S THE WAY *** Rising 11YO having his 116th start. Battled away last start and there may be life yet. Has won eight times at this trip and could show up. 4.00
2 BEST LIFE * Only win was at this trip but recent form ordinary. Needs to improve. 20
3 CHEETAH KING *** Recent form poor but has won three times at this trip and should be running on. 4.00
4 READY FORTUNE *** Only turf win was at this trip. Class 5 journeyman who will be battling on. 3.00
5 ZAHIR *** Broke through for Maiden win in this class last start. Up 6.5kg but could show up. 12
6 DOUBLE JEOPARDY * Has been trying for a long time and best efforts have been on poly. Recent efforts ordinary and needs to improve. 25
7 SHABBAT * Did not show up when resuming. Has placed twice at this trip but still a Maiden after 21 starts. 25
8 MASURAO ** Improved last start and suited this distance. Could go forward and give a sight. 12
9 FOREST KING ** Battled on last start over this trip. Could improve but yet to place in 11 starts. 20
10 SGFIFTY * Yet to place in 10 starts. 33
11 PRESENT ARMS * Yet to place in 13 starts. 33
12 JOHNNY HATES JAZZ * Recent form poor and only wins have been on poly. Has not placed in six turf runs. 33
13 NOVEMBER SUCCESS * Placed once in 27 starts. Tested. 33

Race 7

Selections; 1 PRECIOUS GEM – 3 REMEMBER ME – 8 TRUMPS UP – 4 SILENT ARROW
A solid Class 4 with some promising stayers involved. However, a 6YO in PRECIOUS GEM might be the one to beat. The gelding found 1400m too short last start and is better suited here; the claim helps and he can be handy throughout. REMEMBER ME ran on solidly in a strong BM67 last start, he should be handy throughout. The blinkers come off SILVER ARROW who ran on well to win in this grade over 1400m last start; he is stepping up in distance and can be handy throughout. MAGSTOCK steps up in grade after a KSD win but shows promise and should be up to this class and distance. TRUMPS UP is a 3YO who broke through last start; this is harder but she shows staying promise and should be suited at this distance.

1 PRECIOUS GEM *** Found 1400m too short last start and better suited here. Claim helps and can be handy throughout. 6.00
2 MAGSTOCK *** Steps up in grade after KSD win but shows promise and should be up to this class and distance. 4.50
3 REMEMBER ME *** Ran on solidly in a strong BM67 last start. Should be handy throughout. 3.50
4 SILENT ARROW *** Blinkers off. Ran on well to win in this grade over 1400m last start. Stepping up in distance and can be handy throughout. 4.00
5 FLYING TEMPO * Hasn’t won for a long time and did not show up when resuming. 33
6 FUJIN BRIGHT * Needs to improve on recent efforts. 20
7 BRAHMS AND LISZT ** Not far away at recent outings but take on trust at the trip. 20
8 TRUMPS UP *** Broke through last start. This is harder but shows promise and should be suited this distance. 12
9 BLACK SWAN ** Maiden who placed over 2000m in KSD company last start. Suited this distance and could be running on late. 16
10 DANGER ZONE ** Struggles to win but suited this distance. Goes best with a positive ride. 20
11 LADY LIBERTY ** Maiden who should keep them honest late at odds. 33
12 THANATOS * Bred to stay but yet to show up in three outings. 50

Race 8

Selections; 3 FRENCH VINTAGE – 1 ALFONSO – 4 HANDSOME RABID – 5 SILVER TYCOON
While HANDSOME RABID is definitely one to watch after his strong win when resuming under a new name for a new trainer, two horses that just missed last start in ALFONSO and FRENCH VINTAGE look the two to be on. ALFONSO just missed when having his first start in Class 5 with Vlad Duric up and, with the gun Aussie hoop staying onboard, he must go close. FRENCH VINTAGE also just missed last start when he was backing up from his maiden win in KSD company. That form behind Siamese Cat will hold up and from gate 1 he will be prominent throughout. Others to consider are SILVER TYCOON, SATELLITE PRINCE and MOLLY BROWN with Manny Nunes to ride.

1 ALFONSO *** Just missed last start similar affair and right in this. 4.00
2 FORTUNE SPIRIT ** Form ordinary and drawn badly but will improve in this Company so watch market. 33
3 FRENCH VINTAGE *** Backed up maiden win with a very good effort in KSD company and hard to beat here. 3.80
4 HANDSOME RABID *** Resumed with new name and a strong win and have to respect. 8.00
5 SILVER TYCOON *** Maiden who looks ready to win a race like this and must go close. 8.00
6 SATELLITE PRINCE *** Step up to the mile has him under consideration. 10
7 BIG BANKER ** In form but turf form a worry. 12
8 DUAL IMPACT ** Always an each-way show in races like this. 12
9 MOLLY BROWNE *** Form better than it reads and most recent win was this trip and Class. 20
10 ARCHER COMPANY ** Blinkers off and should be doing better in this company. 33
11 TEMBUSU ESTRELA ** In solid form in slightly easier races but should be thereabouts. 12
12 AUREUS * Form tapering and have to take on trust. 50
13 EASTERN TOWKAY ** Maiden whose solid recent form has been on the Poly. 20
14 JET STRIKER * No. 200

Race 9

Selections; 7 LIM’S RACER – 1 CAORUNN – 8 ATHENA – 3 SKYWALK
A small field will head to the starter for the $200,000 Group 3 Juvenile Championship and while we would like to find one that may improve to win at odds, the form from the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe should hold up. LIM’S RACER won on that occasion and no reason to think he is the one to beat again with a tongue-tie added for good measure. CAORUNN was very brave to just go down on that occasion and showed his strong form from New Zealand will more than hold up in Group races in Singapore and is certainly a horse to follow. ATHENA gave them a start when finishing third in the Golden Horseshoe and she may appreciate the smaller field and the Long Course C. Blanket over the rest although SKYWALK might appreciate the break between races and could be the bolter on what we saw on debut.

1 CAORUNN *** Just missed in the Golden Horseshoe and in this a long way from the ace. 3.50
2 MACARTHUR ** Honest in the Golden Horseshoe after back-to-back wins and will be in the mix. 12
3 SKYWALK ** Didn’t quite back up in the Golden Horseshoe but pay to keep safe on spanking debut win. 10
4 MYSTIC MASTER ** Hard to fault form but needs a result for the support and could be tested against a couple of these. 8.00
5 SIAM SAPPHIRE ** Excuses when running on late in the Golden Horseshoe and should figure somewhere. 12
6 SILKINO ** Appreciates debut run and 1200m. 20
7 LIM’S RACER *** Hard to fault Group winning form and looks the hardest to beat with tongue-tie added. 2.50
8 ATHENA *** Ran on well in the Golden Horseshoe and gets her chance on a track that suits. 6.00

Race 10

Selections; 1 LIM’S KNIGHT – 9 AMAZON GOLD – 7 SOUTHERN HUSSLER – 3 ARCHEW
While there a few horses are in form and have to be respected, LIM’S KNIGHT could be too good for Kranji Stakes D Company and happy to think he is one of the better bets on the card. The 3YO is resuming but given his last run was in the Dester 3YO Sprint, he does look extremely well placed here. His run in the Classic was solid and a recent good trial suggests he is ready to win. AMAZON GOLD could be the fly in the best bet ointment. The 5YO was given little chance in running at his last start so his effort to finish off the race was more than admirable and Nunes with winkers added suggests the stable agrees. Last start winner SOUTHERN HUSSLER looks to have got his act together in Singapore and can go on with the job and market bets guide on most others.

1 LIM’S KNIGHT *** Resuming after fair effort at 3YO Group company and form prior plus recent trial suggests he is very hard to beat. 3.50
2 TASSAJARA ** Improved effort last start on the turf and can improve again in this Company. 20
3 ARCHEW ** Last start effort for new trainer nothing to be sneezed at and must be respected. 12
4 PALTROW ** Hard to fault form since maiden win but may need a tad longer. 6.00
5 STICK SEEKER ** Appreciates first up run and should figure somewhere late in a race that suits. 12
6 CONVICT ** Resuming with nice trial under his belt and goes well enough fresh to consider. 10
7 SOUTHERN HUSSLER *** Looked good when reading maiden status last start and showed previous run he is up to this level. 5.00
8 MORALES ** Better option on the Poly but last start better than the result and can add value to exotics. 33
9 AMAZON GOLD *** Excuses last start and that effort good enough to win a race like this with winkers added. 6.00
10 SOON YI ** Always worth a look at odds. 20
11 RACER KING * Competitive but better suited over 1000m. 50
12 HIKO YUNIKON * Gets winkers and recent trial was sold but a better option on the Poly. 33
13 REAL HERO * Needs Class 5. 100
14 ACE RICH * Resuming and eligible for easier. 100
15 FRAGRANCE EMPIRE * Class 5 is his caper. 100
16 THE WINGED DRAGON ** Maiden who goes OK but may be looking or Class 5. 33

Race 11

Selections; 2 SUPER LINE – 8 MORITZ ECLIPSE – 3 CASING ROYAL – 9 RUN IT TWICE
Another cracking race to finish the weekends racing and with four last start winners taking part, we can expect the betting to be furious. SUPER LINE in particular will get plenty of support but not as much as last start where he went off on the minimum win dividend ($1.20) and just got the job done in Class 4 company. That was on the back of a very strong debut win and he can improve over 1400m and be hard to beat. Of the other last start winners, CASING ROYAL showed his best and is worth following while OPTIMUS looks a progressive type and ELISE is chasing a hat trick so has to be respected. The race has depth and we will also be having a long look at MORITZ ECLIPSE who is suited at the handicap conditions, RUN IT TWICE who had excuses last start and SPLICE who looks a solid each-way option at odds.

1 ELISE *** Hard to fault winning form and pay to keep following. 4.00
2 SUPER LINE *** Just got the chocolates last start at prohibitive odds but can improve again and keep unbeaten run intact. 2.3
3 CASING ROYAL *** Got his act together to win last start and worth another each-way look. 8.00
4 OPTIMUS *** Excuses for only poor run and progressive enough to follow. 8.00
5 SPLICE *** Ignore last start on the Poly as previous four in similar races like this suggests he is a chance at value. 20
6 SUN EMPIRE * Can run a cheeky race but better in Class 4. 33
7 LIM’S SPRINT ** Resumed with solid effort and could keep a few honest late. 20
8 MORITZ ECLIPSE *** Battled on in strong Graduation last start and will find this easier. 12
9 RUN IT TWICE *** All sorts of excuses in running last start and showed more than enough late to follow. 12
10 Q NINE MAGIC ** Might need it easier to win but in solid form and another that will keep the favourites honest. 20
11 WINNING GOOD * No. 100

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
